Excerpt: "No single theory explains all criminal behaviour. This may be due to the diversity of conduct gathered under the umbrella of 'crime'. Will it ever be possible for a single theory to explain such a multitude of deviant behaviour? Perhaps theorists should stop seeking to explain 'crime' as a homogenous category and focus attention on explaining particular manifestations of crime, such as rape, violence and theft. A fragmented approach may ultimately provide the foundation for an over-arching explanation of crime, building from the particular to the general in a way that may be more effective than attempts to explain all criminal behaviour from a single theory. However, it always remains possible that a single cohesive explanation for all crime will always remain elusive."

Policy On Transport

Excerpt: "In this review of New Labour's transport policy I have made four key points. Firstly, that its policy on social exclusion and transport is revealing of New Labour's overall approach to transport because of its emphasis on opportunity and so called 'joined up thinking.' Secondly, that the New Labour policy on transport, as represented by the report is exemplary of New Labour thinking. Thirdly, I have explained how distinctive New Labour's approach is from other approaches to transport policy namely Marxian, social democratic and new right. And finally I have highlighted some criticisms of the New Labour approach especially by environmentalists. These criticisms reveal how despite the different rhetoric the New Labour policy on transport suffers from very important weaknesses that previous approaches have succumb to. "
